Pembroke Dock Through Time |
What a fantastic surprise it was to the rest of the website team, when we recently learnt that two former pupils, Phil Carradice and Roger MacCallum had been collaborating for most of the year on a marvellous book which has just been published!
Pembroke Dock Through Time comprises photographs and prints of Pembroke Dock dating from the 19th century to the 1950s, paired with their modern equivalent photographs taken earlier this year. |

Roger MacCallum and Phil Carradice |
The book came about directly as a result of their meeting earlier this year during their involvement with the The Penvro website. Before that, they had last met when playing rugby for the school in 1964! Both have a keen interest in the history of Pembroke Dock and the Royal Dockyard, and had between them a large collection of old photos.

Amberley Publishing had commissioned Phil to produce a book in their series ‘Through Time’ and this is the result. There is something for everyone here, whether they have lived in this area all or some of their lives, or whether they are just visiting Pembroke Dock for the first time. The book also shows how photography has continually evolved to keep up with an ever changing society.

We would all like to congratulate Roger and Phil on this wonderful effort. The wealth of talent of former pupils never ceases to amaze us- whether it be from their school days or nowadays. (Read those back issues of The Penvro!)
Pembroke Dock Through Time is currently available online through Amazon and Blackwells and in local bookshops and will also soon be available through the Amberley Publishing website. ISBN 978 1 84868 676 2
